Bangkok

Bangkok is the capital of Thailand and one of the most happening cities in the country. River Chao Phraya passes through the city of Bangkok. The city is well established through both the sides and one of the parts is know as Fung Thon and the other part is called Krung Thep. Bangkok is one of the most populous cites in the world. The population of Bangkok is 6 million and the surrounding area has the population of 10 million. But as many other big metro cities there are great influx outside people and thus making the population of Bangkok around 15- 20 million.
In the past Bangkok was considered as the main gateway for Asia for every foreigner who regularly searches new markets. This city is one of the major business and financial Hub in the south East Asian region. This is also one of the fastest growing cities for high rise buildings.
History-
The city of Bangkok stated its journey as a small trading town on the bank of river Chao Phraya. The name Bangkok originated from thai name Bang Makok, in which Bang means central and Makok being a plant producing fruits similar to Olive. The city of Bangkok was part of Ayutthaya Kingdom from the year 1351 to 1767. After the collapse of Ayutthaya Kingdom, Burmese took over the Bangkok under King Taksin and he established the new capital in the area of Bangkok.
The full credit for the introduction of planned infrastructure for transport goes to King Chulalongkorn and King Mongkut.
Geography- The total area of Bangkok is 606 square miles. It is one of the biggest cities in the world. The length of river Chao Phraya is 231 miles and is the most important geographical feature. The city of Bangkok lies about 6.5feet above the sea level, this result in a continuous danger of flood in the city of Bangkok. And in order to avoid these dangers the Metropolitan Administration of Bangkok has installed plank in some of the major canals to overcome this problem. The monsoon of Bangkok is Tropical.
Bangkok is a quite green place and Department of National Forestry by declaring major part of the city as green Zone.
Economy – It is considered as the major economic and financial centre in South East Asian region and it contributes substantially to Thailand economy by adding US dollar 220 Billion in the year 2005 and its per capita income is highest in the South East Region. Bangkok is the headquarters of many financial institutions and banks and there are 13 companies of Forbes 2000 situated in Bangkok.
Tourism plays very significant role in Bangkok economy and the city of Bangkok act as most important international tourist gateway.
Transportation
Bangkok has a very good developed infrastructure with some very good rail and road network. In the past, with its good and developed canals and River network it is also called as the Venice of East but now its all canal system are filled and converted into streets. Its road network is one of the best in the region with some most advanced elevated highways.
